Have you ever wondered how the alphabet first appeared in the ancient near east,
or wanted to get some idea just what pieces of early alphabetic writing have been found?
This app will show you those things and more. Most of the various recognised examples of
early writing are shown on a combined map and timeline – get a quick overview of the big
picture, or zoom in and find out more about individual finds. Many of the items are linked
to online images or web pages describing them in more detail. New fragments are emerging
in archaeological digs year by year, and this app will track such developments as they
come to light.
